Ambassador Gong Jianwei, CICA Executive Director, participated in the high-level regional conference The Silk Road Economic Belt: Seeking Common Security Interests between the EU and Chinajointlyorganised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Tutzing, Germany on 13-14 February 2017. Senior Government officials and representatives of prominent think tanks from EU as well as senior representatives of think tanks from Afghanistan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan and Russia participated in the conference. Participant exchanged views on various aspects of the Belt and Road Initiative of the People’s Republic of China, including Security Concerns Exacerbated and Mitigated through the Belt; Cooperation Avenues in Central Asia and South Asia; State-Specific Implications; and Geopolitical Consequences. Ambassador Gong Jianwei delivered keynote address at the conference.
Overwhelming opinion at the conference was that Belt and Road Initiative is an extremely important and comprehensive vision for China’s engagement with its neighbours and beyond. It will benefit all the states, including EU and lead to economic development of the region, bring more prosperity to people, enhance people-to-people interactions and creating the environment for win-win cooperation for peace, security and stability.
